My own setup uses KeeWeb on Linux, the first-party KeePass 2 app for Windows, and AuthPass on Android – all accessing a shared database file that I keep on a secure cloud server that I control. It’s both an application and a standard, with multiple apps that can access KeePass database (KDBX) files and handle their associated encryption standard. KeePass is free, open source software to the core, with no paid-for components or licenses whatsoever. Browser extensions Chrome, Firefox, IE, Edge Chrome, Opera, Safari.Stand-alone clients Windows, Linux, macOS, BSD, Android (Play & F-Droid), iOS.Security AES-256, ChaCha20 (the latter for memory protection), third-party extensions allow the addition of other algorithms.This makes the use of that application even more favourable. KeePassX uses a database format that is compatible with KeePass Password Safe. Therefore the saved information can be considered as quite safe. The complete database is always encrypted either with AES (alias Rijndael) or Twofish encryption algorithm using a 256 bit key. The integrated search function allows to search in a single group or the complete database. Furthermore the entries are sorted in groups, which are customizable as well.

KeePassX is an application for people with extremly high demands on secure personal data management.
